Why we created “Social Networking in Real Life”

Needless to say, things get weird very quickly. And many of you agree. The video now has over 250,000 views and has been shared by MTV, TIME, Elite Daily and others.

So, why did we do it? Obviously, no one goes around poking other people or announcing their check-ins out loud. But that’s the point. We spend a lot of our lives on social media and tend to think all that sharing and tweeting is the same thing as networking. And while social media can be a great tool in building relationships, it’s not a substitute for it.

There’s more to your potential contact than his or her retweets or favorite listicles. We at RelSci believe it’s time to bring relationship building back into the real world.
