RelSci Client Spotlight Series: The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation

Founded in 1962, The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation is the nation’s oldest and largest provider of need-based scholarships to military children. For more than 55 years, they’ve been providing access to affordable education for the children of Marine and Navy Corpsman attending post-high school, under-graduate and career technical education programs.

How has partnering with RelSci helped The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation?

“RelSci is an integral part of our strategy for building new relationships through our existing network, particularly in the midst of the pandemic environment, and we are actively working with our Board and Event leadership to maximize the impact of this tool,” said Lea Fitzpatrick, Director, Development Strategy at The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.

“It’s made it possible to build critical new relationships through authentic and appropriate conversations, the benefits of which will pay off for many years to come. We have some big goals ahead of us as the demand for our scholarships to the children of Marines and Navy Corpsmen, and the cost of higher education, continue to rise.”

“We feel well-prepared thanks to our incredible network of supporters and their willingness to partner with us in meeting these goals head-on.”

“RelSci has been an incredible tool for us in mapping connections within our existing network, of which we might not otherwise be aware. We’ve found that it has increased people’s willingness to make introductions when we are bringing information to them about their connection to a potential investor in our mission, and then providing a framework for that conversation based on our research,” said Fitzpatrick.

“We have a great respect for when an existing partner of ours is willing to extend their support by engaging their personal and professional relationships. RelSci allows us to identify and build on that willingness in a thoughtful and unobtrusive way, reviewing potential options with the partner and inviting them to identify the opportunities they recommend pursuing.”

“Additionally, it has allowed us to identify connections that our partners might not be aware of themselves,” said Fitzpatrick. “For example, in our early days of using RelSci we discovered that one of our Directors served on another Board with a potential honoree at one of our events. When we identified the connection to the Director, he was more than happy to open up the conversation following their shared Board meeting, which resulted in the honoree being confirmed and building a new and important relationship for our organization.”
