Reflections on the 2019 APRA Prospect Development Conference

RelSci at APRA

RelSci’s CEO Domenic Graziosi, along with colleagues Leigh Kopperman and Ashley Sicsko, recently attended the annual APRA Prospect Development conference in Phoenix, Arizona. The event brought together data scientists, nonprofit and education leaders, and technology professionals to discuss the latest developments in prospect development and fundraising.

One of the conference’s key takeaways was the growing influence of analytics and data science on the prospect identification and development process. The conference agenda included sessions on using analytics to better understand prospect interests and on visualization techniques to more accurately predict donor behavior. The session was keynoted by data scientist Hillary Parker. Attendee James Rygg, Director of Prospect Development at Azusa Pacific University, also reflected on the increasing importance of data and technology in a LinkedIn post recapping his experience at the conference.

In addition to helping RelSci connect with new people, APRA 2019 provided a great opportunity to hear from some of our current customers.

CEO Domenic Graziosi spoke with one customer who told the story of how RelSci helped his nonprofit secure a one million dollar donation. As the customer put it, without RelSci, he wouldn’t have been able to uncover the warm relationship between one of the nonprofit’s board members and the donor.

Another RelSci nonprofit customer had the following to say about her use of the platform:

“RelSci has been instrumental in my work in a number of ways. Finding connections to HNWIs and CEOs in order to get a warm introduction for our development team is vital, and RelSci has helped with that. Additionally, news alerts on companies, donors, and prospects has helped us to keep ahead of wealth events, as well as keep abreast of information such as job changes or board appointments. It’s one tool that I definitely would not give up!”
